SUMMARY:EEF Physical Development Toolkit - What to Know and How to Use It with Hellen Battelley
DESCRIPTION:Stronger Practice Hub Event \nHelen Battelley \nThis webinar will explore the content in the Education Endowment Foundations’ recently published Physical Development tool kit within the Evidence Store. \n\nWhat is the evidence store and PD tool kit?\nReviewing ‘Teaching the skills needed for moving and handling’ – Teaching and Learning Approaches.\n‘Reviewing Teaching the skills needed for mark making’ – Teaching and learning Approaches.\nToolkit resources – Written and Video content\nWhat else to consider?\n\nPlease Note: This session will be recorded. \nHelen Battelley is an internationally renowned consultant\, trainer\, author and speaker in Physical activity/movement in Early and Primary Education with an MA in Early Childhood Physical Activity. \nThe movement philosophy Helen promotes is to embed movement within the curriculum and framework to enable a movement philosophy. Young children learn through movement\, early years practice must adopt an approach which is accessible to all. \nHelen’s sessions are primarily aimed at increasing practitioners confidence\, motivation and basic movement skills\, enabling them to create their own movement activities to support learning- building on these core principles to become part of their everyday planning. Staff have found the courses to ‘reignite a spark’ within them to become more physically active in their own lives. \nLearn more about Helen Battelley here. \n\n This training is for early years practitioners and leaders working in settings or childminders in our Stronger Practice Hub area (Bristol\, Bath and North East Somerset\, Swindon\, Wiltshire\, Somerset\, North Somerset\, Gloucestershire\, South Gloucestershire). SUMMARY:Being Two: Patterns of Play
DESCRIPTION:Stronger Practice Hub Event \nThe Being Two workshops will consider from a child’s perspective what it means to be truly two. Participants will explore how practitioners who are responsive and skilled in meeting the unique needs of two-year-olds can make a difference. \nHave you noticed the uniqueness of two-year-olds’ play? This is largely influenced by their lived experiences\, personal interests\, and the individual ways in which their brains work. Join us for this interactive workshop to look at the multiple types of play and how these impact children’s learning. There will be opportunities to consider ways that practitioners can maximise play-based learning opportunities. \nPlease note: This is a stand-alone workshop that needs to be booked individually. However\, there are two other Being Two workshops that you may find useful\, too. SUMMARY:Supporting EAL in the Early Years for Practitioners Working in Schools
DESCRIPTION:Stronger Practice Hub Event \nThis interactive virtual session considers how we best support multilingual children and their families. It will reflect on how working with families can make the biggest difference and offer practical advice for everyday practice. \nMultilingual children and families are an important part of the fabric in our early years settings. How do we best support and grow their language skills to ensure they reach a good level of English while maintaining their home language? \nThis session will support practitioners to: \n\nIdentify and discuss how English as an additional language (EAL) is acquired in early years\nDevelop good practice to inclusively support all children applying effective EAL principles\n\nLouise Campbell-White and Alison Heseltine will deliver this session. \nLouise Campbell-White \nLouise Campbell-White has worked in early years for over eight years\, focusing on supporting children and families with English as an Additional Language (EAL). Louise works directly with early years educators\, supporting their everyday delivery of high-quality inclusive EAL education. Louise began her career teaching English to children and adults in Japan and then returned to the UK to work as a school advisor for Somerset’s Ethnic Minority Achievement Service. Louise writes and delivers training and has written articles for NALDIC and The Under 5s publications. She has also been a speaker at Nursey World’s annual conference. \nAlison Heseltine \nAlison Heseltine\, an Early Years Development Manager for the Early Years Alliance\, has over 20 years of experience supporting children\, families\, and providers. Alison writes and delivers training nationally and takes a lead on the importance of speech\, communication\, and language for the Alliance. Her personal experiences have influenced the focus of her work – the importance of communication and language for children and the role of families in supporting their children’s learning and development at home. \nThis session is an online interactive workshop that will encourage reflective discussion and learning together; it is\, therefore\, an expectation that you will have your camera on. There will be opportunities for sharing in breakout rooms so that we can learn about practice from each other and get the most learning from this workshop. We will also prioritise settings and childminders in areas of deprivation.
