DESCRIPTION:Stronger Practice Hub Event \nThis interactive virtual session considers how we best support multilingual children and their families. It will reflect on how working with families can make the biggest difference and offer practical advice for everyday practice. \nMultilingual children and families are an important part of the fabric in our early years settings. How do we best support and grow their language skills to ensure they reach a good level of English while maintaining their home language? \nThis session will support practitioners to: \n\nIdentify and discuss how English as an additional language (EAL) is acquired in early years\nDevelop good practice to inclusively support all children applying effective EAL principles\n\nLouise Campbell-White and Alison Heseltine will deliver this session. \nLouise Campbell-White \nLouise Campbell-White has worked in early years for over eight years\, focusing on supporting children and families with English as an Additional Language (EAL). Louise works directly with early years educators\, supporting their everyday delivery of high-quality inclusive EAL education. Louise began her career teaching English to children and adults in Japan and then returned to the UK to work as a school advisor for Somerset’s Ethnic Minority Achievement Service. Louise writes and delivers training and has written articles for NALDIC and The Under 5s publications. She has also been a speaker at Nursey World’s annual conference. \nAlison Heseltine \nAlison Heseltine\, an Early Years Development Manager for the Early Years Alliance\, has over 20 years of experience supporting children\, families\, and providers. Alison writes and delivers training nationally and takes a lead on the importance of speech\, communication\, and language for the Alliance. Her personal experiences have influenced the focus of her work – the importance of communication and language for children and the role of families in supporting their children’s learning and development at home. \nThis session is an online interactive workshop that will encourage reflective discussion and learning together; it is\, therefore\, an expectation that you will have your camera on. DESCRIPTION:Stronger Practice Hub Event \nThis training is intended for practitioners and those who work with babies and children in the early years; the training aims to improve their confidence in identifying and supporting those experiencing sensory processing differences. The training will introduce the eight sensory systems and how they may have an impact on a child’s experience of the world around them. Training participants will become familiar with what is meant by ‘sensory processing’ and take part in interactive activities to embed this understanding. \nLearning Outcomes \n\nTo gain an in-depth understanding of the eight sensory systems\, particularly in relation to the early years\nTo understand what sensory processing is and how this differs from person to person\nTo explore ways to create a sensory environment conducive to learning\nTo apply what is learned in the training session to everyday practice supporting babies and children\n\nAbout Christina Welsh \nChristina Welsh \nChristina Welsh\, Education Programme Manager at the Council for Disabled Children. \nChristina has worked at the Council for Disabled Children in the Education and Equalities team since August 2022. She manages the Early Years SEND Partnership programme and supports the coordination of the Special Educational Consortium. As part of her role at the EYSEND Partnership\, Christina develops and leads training on topics such as sensory processing and the Equality Act for parents/carers and practitioners\, provides strategic support on inclusion to local authorities\, and coordinates large events bringing together representatives from across the early years sector. \nChristina has worked in the education nonprofit sector for seven years\, developing national\, regional\, and global education programmes for underserved communities.
