Dr Sue Gifford is chair of the Early Childhood Maths Group and works as an early years mathematics consultant with practitioners and various official bodies. Previously a London reception teacher, she worked with pre-service teachers at Roehampton University and researched nursery mathematics and children with mathematics difficulties. She is the author of Teaching Mathematics 3 to 5: Developing Learning in the Foundation Stage, and co-authored The Power of Pattern: Patterning in the Early Years. Recently she has been involved in developing early maths professional development programmes for DfE. Her current research interests include the development of spatial reasoning and links between patterning and music.
