Open Study Day at Tithe Barn, Gloucestershire – Focus on Communication and Language

Tithe Barn Preschool has been established in Bishops Cleeve, Gloucestershire, for many years. Samantha Fisher and Cathy Lea, two qualified Primary School Teachers, took over the ownership in September 2016. The Preschool has gained two Outstanding OFSTED Inspections (2018 and 2023).
Tithe Barn Preschool offers places to children aged 2, 3 and 4 years old and is a pack-away setting.
Stronger Practice Hub
Tithe Barn Preschool will share their journey and expertise in creating a supportive communication and language-rich environment following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aims of the Day
- To develop a stronger understanding of teaching and modelling language
- To develop interactive reading skills to engage all children
- To embed the teaching of social and communication skills and modelling language in everyday practice
- To plan and deliver successful interventions to close the communication and language gap.
Timetable for the Day
8:30am – 9:00am: Arrive
9:00am: Welcome / Tea and Coffee / Introduction
9:15am: Learning Walk
10:00am: Observations of teaching and modelling language and successful observations. (Intervention Groups)
10:30am: BREAK
10:45am: Observations of teaching and modelling social communication skills and interactive reading skills.
11:15am: Senior Management Team Workshop
11:45am: Q &A Session with Senior Leadership Team (Reflections on the morning)
12:15pm: LUNCH (please bring your own)
1:00pm: Forest School with an outdoor learning and communication focus
2:00pm: Speech and Language Assessment and Referrals
2:30pm: Reflections of the day
3:00pm: Finish
Please Note: This training day is for early years practitioners working in settings or childminders in our Stronger Practice Hub area. There are 20 places available. Therefore, booking does not guarantee a place. We will prioritise settings and childminders in areas of deprivation. Places will be confirmed two weeks before the event.

Parking
St. Pauls Children’s Centre: There is no on-site parking but parking is available on the road for £1 an hour for a maximum of 3 hours, or in Cabot Circus which is 5-minute walk from the St. Pauls Children’s Centre.
