Risky Play in the Outdoors – Outdoor Learning Workshop (North Somerset)

July 16 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm BST

Free

Stronger Practice Hub Event

In these outdoor workshops, we will be networking, reflecting, discussing, learning and exploring hands-on what makes a good outdoor environment. You will leave with plenty of ideas to take back and influence developing the outdoors in your setting.

Taking a risk in play outdoors – It’s all about balance!

This workshop will provide an opportunity to investigate risks and play in an outdoor environment, exploring the benefits of risk and how to assess with the support of the Health and Safety executive.

Testing limits and learning about boundaries is important for children to explore and challenge themselves in a supportive environment where children are trusted and encouraged through self driven exploration and play outdoors to develop skills and enjoy learning

We are not promoting dangerous or unsafe play or environments but considering how you can develop children’s critical thinking skills so they can consider their own actions, consequences and skills of risk management. This helps them understand simple ways to keep themselves safe and how to navigate those risks safely to develop lifelong learning.

These practical sessions will be delivered outdoors regardless of the weather so please dress appropriately.

Please Note: This training day is for early years practitioners working in settings or childminders in our Stronger Practice Hub area. There are 30 places available and no more than two places per setting. We will prioritise settings and childminders in areas of deprivation. Places will be confirmed two weeks before the event.

If this event is sold out, you can email sph@beyth.co.uk and ask to be added to the reserve list. Please tell us your setting name and postcode. The same workshop is also available to book on an alternative date (Tuesday 16th July 2024) here.

Unfortunately you are NOT able to bring your children along to these sessions. They are for Early Years practitioners and childminders only.
