Stronger Practice Hub Event
Number is so much more than asking the question “How many…?” Subitising is a fundamental skill in developing number sense so we will consider what it is and how to use it to develop children’s understanding of the relationships between numbers.
We will consider the stages of learning to count and how complex this is for young children. We will also look at the difference between counting for ordinality and counting for cardinality. Woven throughout the session will be the golden threads of noticing, talking, and developing a positive attitude towards number.
By the end of the session delegates will feel more confident and knowledgeable on how to support children with subitising, counting and developing good number sense.
This session is being delivered by trainer Jo Chandler. Jo is an Early Years Advisory teacher for Wiltshire Local Authority, specialising in Maths in the EYs.
This session is aimed at all practitioners working with 3-4 year olds.
This session is repeated. You can book either the morning session or the evening session.
Part of the session might be recorded.
This is the first of three Maths sessions. Sessions 2 and 3 will be scheduled for after Easter.
This training is for early years practitioners and leaders working in settings or childminders in our Stronger Practice Hub area (Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, Wiltshire, Somerset, North Somerset, Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire). We will also prioritise settings and childminders in areas of deprivation.
