Bristol & Beyond Stronger Practice Hub

Bristol & Beyond Early Years Hub (formerly The Bristol Early Years Teaching Hub) is a hub for professionals in Early Years settings and Primary Schools, who wish to collaborate, challenge and innovate to improve provision, leadership and achievement in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Our Hub has a significant role in supporting quality improvement across Bristol and beyond. Through our strategic alliance with the LA, we play a central role in quality assurance, self-evaluation, professional development and school/setting improvement for the whole EYs sector. This includes all reception classes in Primary Schools, Nursery Schools, Nursery classes, private voluntary and independent nurseries and childminders.

Bristol & Beyond Early Years Hub has a long-standing track record of leading and delivering high-quality support and professional development that has a measurable and sustainable impact.

As our reputation has grown for delivering expert CPLD, we now offer an annual training programme and bespoke packages for EYs settings and schools both nationally and internationally.

Originally designated and established as a National Teaching School in 2012, our EYs Hub is led by St Pauls Nursery School and Children’s Centre, an ‘Outstanding’ provider, and we work in collaboration with the Bristol Local Authority EYs team, other Bristol Nursery Schools, Pen Green and the 5 Counties Teaching Hub.

  • Exploring and Growing Fresh Produce in an Early Years Setting (for Nursery Schools and Schools With a Nursery or Preschool Class)

    Stronger Practice Hub Event

    This session is for Early Years settings of all sizes who would like to improve their understanding of food, in particular vegetables, herbs, spices and fruits. The session is led by Jo Ingleby, the Director of The Children’s Kitchen, a Feeding Bristol project focused on encouraging young children and families to explore, cook and grow fresh produce. The project focuses on the areas of Bristol with the highest levels of food insecurity. Settings working with The Children’s Kitchen are encouraged to move away from traditional baking on cakes and towards child-led food sessions led by curiosity and creativity.

    This session will explore the role of the key person in tuning in to babies and reflecting upon babies' rights, and listening to their voice, both verbal and nonverbal. It builds upon previous sessions "Getting it Right with Babies" and "Talking with Babies".

  • Humour Development From Birth to 3 Years With Dr Elena Hoicka

    In this session Dr Elena Hoicka will discuss research-based evidence about how to share humour with children from infancy through 3 years. She will discuss when infants first understand and produce humour and go through 21 types of humour that children appreciate in the first four years. She will also discuss how you can share humour with children and understand when they joke with you. Finally, she will discuss research about early humour's potential benefits.
