The ‘Introduction to Makaton’ taster session is a 2-hour workshop designed for complete beginners or those with previous training who would benefit from a refresher. You will learn what Makaton is, how to use it and who with, you will learn approximately. 50 signs and symbols relevant to your role as a Childminder with the focus being on Early Years Vocabulary alongside core, functional vocabulary.

The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage requires that providers must put appropriate arrangements in place for the supervision of staff who have contact with young children and families. We will encourage you to reflect on what you yourself bring to the team, and support you to consider ways in which you can empower your team members both collectively and individually, to build resilient and sustainable distributed leadership.

Movement is our first language and form of communication with the outside world. This session will explore how becoming movement literate can impact on the acquisition of language. The session will also explore other fundamental ways movement supports these areas from focal support to promoting neuroplasticity.

This session will explore how we can talk with babies to help them become confident communicators and develop respectful relationships that enable babies to make genuine choices. We will consider how mindful care routines might support communication and language, the power of non-verbal communication and learning the ‘conversational dance’.

In this session we will explore some definitions of schemas and schematic behaviour, find out about different behaviour displayed relating to schematic play, consider how sometimes schematic play is misinterpreted as poor behaviour and reflect upon your children and consider how to plan for schematic play.
