Positive relationships with parents are at the heart of good early years practice, but supporting families when a child has emerging or identified SEND can bring additional complexities. This reflective and practical session will explore what meaningful partnership looks like in these situations, including navigating different perspectives, sensitive conversations and ensuring parents’ knowledge of their child genuinely informs practice.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Reflect on what meaningful parental partnership looks like when supporting children with SEND.
- Explore approaches to sensitive conversations and situations where perspectives may differ.
- Consider how parents’ knowledge and experience can strengthen assessment, planning and support.
Our SEND Network offers a series of informal, online networking sessions designed for early years practitioners to come together, share experiences, and explore key topics related to SEND in early years settings. Each session focuses on a different aspect of practice, providing some specialist input and a space for discussion, reflection, and peer support. This SEND Network session will be facilitated by Springboard Opportunity Group, our SPH Partner who run several Special Schools in North Somerset.
This training is for early years practitioners and leaders working in settings or childminders in our Stronger Practice Hub area (Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset, North Somerset, Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire). We will also prioritise settings and childminders in areas of deprivation.
