Babies communicate from birth in many different ways, and every interaction is an opportunity to listen. In this session, we’ll explore what it means to truly hear babies’ voices, recognise their cues, preferences and perspectives, and reflect on how our everyday practice can ensure babies feel seen, understood and valued. Join us to share ideas, discuss challenges, and discover practical approaches that place babies’ voices at the heart of our practice.
Melanie Farman
Melanie Farman is Development Manager at Better Start in Blackpool, where she leads work on the Healthy Child Programme, health visiting, parent-infant relationships and perinatal mental health. Since 2019 she has supported the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-informed programmes, including the Blackpool Parent-Infant Relationship Service and Think Baby.
Before this, Melanie spent more than 20 years in the NHS in strategic and operational roles across neonatal services, research, paediatric oncology and specialist community public health nursing. She is passionate about reducing inequalities and improving outcomes for babies, children and families.
Tracy Greenwood
Tracy Greenwood is the Service Manager for the Blackpool Parent-Infant Relationship Service (PaIRS) within Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Alongside leading the service's strategic development and operational delivery, she maintains a clinical role as a Specialist Health Visitor in Perinatal and Infant Mental Health, working directly with families to strengthen parent-infant relationships and support early attachment.
Tracy has over 35 years of NHS experience, with a particular passion for improving outcomes for babies, young children and their families through early intervention, partnership working, workforce development and evidence-based parent-infant relationship practice.
This training is for early years practitioners and leaders working in settings or childminders in our Stronger Practice Hub area (Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, Somerset, North Somerset, Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire). We will also prioritise settings and childminders in areas of deprivation.
Talking About... is a series of informal, one-hour online networking sessions designed for early years practitioners to come together, share experiences, and explore key topics related to babies in early years settings. Each session focuses on a different aspect of practice, providing a space for discussion, reflection, and peer support.
